Reframing breathing for singing: revelations from neuroscience:

When we vocalize, breath has two essential roles: first, it is a constant player in regulating our automatic nervous system. Second, it is an integral component to the complex motor system of vocalization. It is the interplay of these two elements which must be considered in singing. Recent research in the neuroscience of breathing for phonation reveal a shocking shift in how we view such an essential process in our art. This lecture will take you through these exciting developments and will transform your teaching and singing. A happy side effect is that this information also addresses issues like performance anxiety and focus, for breath is integral to the endless loop of homeostasis demanded by the central nervous system.

Requirements: Each singer will bring one art song, musical theater selection, or opera aria. Music must be memorized.
